Designed to question the current practices of construction, Seneca Falls Public Library is constructed out of collected bridge elements found in the decommissioned bridges around upstate New York. In order to allow the entire project to become disassemblable and re-assemblable, the structure is composed of full-length elements. These elements span the entirety of the building, being stacked in an orthogonal arrangement such that they can enclose an open plan within. These structural elements are hidden behind the control layers from the interior, allowing a more domestic interior space. At the end of this branch library’s practical existence, it is designed to be disassembled, with its constituent parts and pieces re-introduced to the material economy.
